Trauma - Neuropsychological Effects on Children and Adults

This presentation will cover the neuropsychological effects of trauma on children and adults with implications for treatment within family court. Topics such as understanding the definition of trauma, multigenerational trauma, how trauma affects brain development across the lifespan, implication of trauma for the family system, best practices for treatment, and important and relevant implications for family court will be covered in this two-hour program.

We do ask that you arrive promptly; otherwise your reserved seat may be given to a walk-in attendee. Laura Capinas photo 8-11-22

Laura Capinas, LCSW

Laura Capinas is a licensed clinical social worker practicing psychotherapy for 22 years. Her area of focus is trauma, anxiety disorders, parent coaching, emotional/behavioral concerns in children, and family therapy. She has been an EMDR certified therapist since 2010 and an EMDR Approved Consultant (supervising EMDR practitioners) since 2014. She is also trained in other modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, and Behavioral Modification. She has a history in working with child abuse in the inner city of Atlanta, GA, foster care children in Appalachia, Medi-Cal patients through Alliance Medical Center, the Latino immigrant population, fire fighters and police officers, families, and private practice clients. She brings a unique intervention style by offering in-home intervention services to families in crisis, a brief, solution focused treatment model, and through sharing her neuro-psychological knowledge of anxiety disorders and trauma to the client, no matter what age the client is. 

Dr. Eliza Lehrke photo 8-11-22

Eliza Lehrke, Psy. D.

Dr. Lehrke is a licensed clinical neuropsychologist and psychotherapist who works with individuals and families across the lifespan navigating a wide variety of medical, developmental, and psychiatric issues. Her early work and training focused on the study of attachment, complex trauma, and psychodynamic theory, and as a neuropsychologist she has worked in both inpatient/medical and outpatient settings. She earned her bachelor's degree from UC Santa Cruz and her doctorate in clinical psychology from the APA-accredited Wright Institute in Berkeley. Her internship in clinical neuropsychology and geropsychology was at Central Regional Hospital and University of North Carolina, and her two years of postdoctoral training in clinical neuropsychology and rehabilitation were completed at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. Some of Dr. Lehrke's specific areas of expertise include ADHD, learning and neurodevelopmental disorders, complex developmental trauma, mood and emotion regulation, personality disorders, psychosis, and neurological conditions including traumatic brain injury, movement disorders, and dementia. In addition to her clinical work she has also taught university courses in psychology and worked for two years as the Clinical Director at a therapy agency in the Bay Area primarily serving children in the foster care system.
